From The Mac App Store - If You Have An Earlier Version Of macOS/OS X and/or macOS/OS X Server)

  1. WARNING: Make sure you do not require certain server features as Apple has now gutted macOS Server and removed most/all of the useful Server features!
  2. Prepare for macOS 10.14 Mojave.
  3. Go to Apple's macOS Server Support web site and read through the information.
  4. Then when you are sure you are ready (you did read the macOS Server Support articles didn't you?) to be safe:
    • Restart your computer.
    • Quit all running applications.
    • Disconnect all external devices except for monitor, keyboard, mouse and required storage volumes.
    • Eject all optical discs.
    • Unmount all servers.
  5. Make sure you are connected to the internet by using a web browser to go to Apple.

  9. NOTE: "Buy" usually means you never purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and there will be a charge. "Get" usually means you never purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and there will be no charge. "Download" usually means you have purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and you can now download it. "Install" usually means you have purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and already downloaded - the Mac App Store has found it on one of your currently connected storage volumes - be careful here as Install may actually install a different/incorrect version.
  10. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  11. The initial macOS Mojave installer should start to download (an icon will appear in your Dock with a progress bar).

  15. NOTE: The full macOS Mojave installer will now download and install - it is ~5GB in size. Without a fast internet connection the progress bar will take some time to actually show any progress - be patient while it downloads (go watch a film or two, do the shopping, get some sleep, etc).
  16. Once the full macOS 10.14 Mojave installer has downloaded it will pause and wait for you to click "Restart" which will restart your computer and install the new operating system
  17. Once macOS 10.14 Mojave has installed you should install the latest macOS 10.14 Mojave Combo Update (if there are any available).
