- iOS 10 and later has a newer Notes format - if you choose to upgrade to the new format, Notes will only synchronise with iOS 9 or later | OS X 10.10.5 or later

- iTunes 12.8.3 with macOS 10.13.6
- iTunes 12.8.2 with OS X 10.11.6 or macOS 10.12.6
- If you are still running OS X 10.10.5 or earlier you either need to upgrade to OS X 10.11.6 or later, or, if you cannot upgrade, you may still be able to use the iOS device with an older macOS / OS X, just be sure to only upgrade/update iOS/iPadOS Over-The-Air (OTA) and never via iTunes
