Apple Safari
Primary web site for SafariSafari updates are now offered as part of the standard Apple Software Update feature of macOS.
SECURITY WARNING: Safari is no longer supported with security updates on unsupported versions of macOS.
Q. What are the current, supported versions of macOS?
A. macOS 13 (Ventura), macOS 12 (Monterey), and macOS 11 (Big Sur) are supported by Apple. The latest security updates are:- macOS 13.6 - included in the macOS 13.6 Installer (or go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update and install the 13.6 update)
- macOS 12.7 - included in the macOS 12.7 Installer (or go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update and install the 12.7 update - click the blue "More info" link under "Other updates are available" or "Another update is available")
- macOS 11.7.10 - included in the macOS 11.7.10 Installer (or go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update and install the 11.7.10 update - click the blue "More info" link under "Other updates are available" or "Another update is available")
- SECURITY WARNING: macOS 10.15 and earlier are no longer supported with security updates - see our securing older operating systems article.
Mozilla Firefox (Desktop Release)
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required : macOS 10.12
- Check for an update now: Open Firefox > go to Firefox menu > About Firefox > click on the "Check for Updates" button
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Open Firefox > go to Firefox menu > Preferences… > General (on the left) > Firefox Updates heading > tick "Automatically install updates (recommended)".
- Download updates manually from the Firefox Desktop download page.
Mozilla Firefox (ESR - Extended Support Release)
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required : OS X 10.9
- Check for an update now: Open Firefox > go to Firefox menu > About Firefox > click on the "Check for Updates" button
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Open Firefox > go to Firefox menu > Preferences… > General (on the left) > Firefox Updates heading > tick "Automatically install updates (recommended)".
- Download updates manually from the Firefox ESR download page.
Chromium
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.11
- Check for an update now: [install and use a Chromium Updater] Quit Chromium if it is running > open Chromium > the FreeSMUG Updater for Chromium will warn you if an update is available
- Turn on Automatic Updates: this feature is not available but if you install an Chromium Updater it will warn you when an update is available
- Download updates manually from the FreeSMUG Chromium download page.
Google Chrome
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.10
- Check for an update now: Google Chrome checks for updates automatically by default
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Google Chrome checks for updates automatically by default - this feature can be turned off using the Terminal but we don't recommend it
- Download updates manually from the Chrome web site.
Microsoft Edge
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: macOS 10.12
- Check for an update now: TO BE CONFIRMED
- Turn on Automatic Updates: TO BE CONFIRMED
- Download updates manually from the Microsoft web site.
Opera
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.11
- Check for an update now: Open Opera > go to Opera menu > Updates & Recovery… > click the "Check for update" button
- Turn on Automatic Updates: TO BE CONFIRMED
- Download updates manually from the Opera web site.
Vivaldi
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.10
- Check for an update now: Open Vivaldi > go to Vivaldi menu > Check for Updates
- Turn on Automatic Updates: TO BE CONFIRMED
- Download updates manually from the Vivaldi web site.
Brave
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.9
- Check for an update now: Open Brave > go to Brave menu > Check for Updates…
- Turn on Automatic Updates: TO BE CONFIRMED
- Download updates manually from the Brave web site.
Yandex
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: OS X 10.9
- Check for an update now: Open Yandex > go to Yandex menu > About Yandex > Yandex will check for updates and show you a message under the "Yandex.Browser" heading
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Yandex checks for updates automatically by default.
- Download updates manually from the Yandex web site.
iCab
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: macOS 10.13
- Check for an update now: Open iCab > go to Help menu > Check for iCab Update
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Open iCab > go to Help menu > Check for iCab Update > tick "Check periodically (Check once per day)" then click "OK".
- Download updates manually from the iCab download page.
Seamonkey
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: Mac OS X 10.6
- Check for an update now: Open Seamonkey > go to Seamonkey menu > Check for Updates…
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Open Seamonkey > go to Seamonkey menu > Preferences… > select "Software Installation" on the left under the 'Advanced' heading > on the right under the 'SeaMonkey' heading tick "Automatically check for updates daily" and "Automatically download and install the update".
- Download updates manually from the Seamonkey web site.
Omniweb
- Minimum version of macOS / OS X required: Mac OS X v10.4.8
- Check for an update now: Open Omniweb > go to Omniweb menu > Check for Updates…
- Turn on Automatic Updates: Open Omniweb > go to Omniweb menu > Preferences… > Update icon > tick "Check for updates" and set your desired timeframe.
- Download updates manually from the Omniweb web site.
